My WLS Journey

338# 03/04/04 I'm now measuring my weightloss by the month rather than by the week.

03/05/04 I've been walking a lot lately. It feels really great getting around the neighborhood again. I ate lunch at work today and took a 30 minute walk after lunch. Usually I eat a big meal (for us) and get sluggish in the afternoon. Today I ate lite and then worked it off with a nice walk since the day was so nice outside. I think I might do that more often...

03/18/04 My internet service has been acting up lately and I have been getting really frustrated by it. Last night, after sitting around fuming for awhile, I decided to go out for a walk. I picked up my pace a little and did an extra lap. I'm no Jesse Owens (or Bill for that matter) but I did get in a mile and a half in under 30 minutes. I felt better afterwards and wasn't as upset about the internet. After I got home from the walk the service was back on so things started looking good. Now if we can just keep the darn thing working everything will be okay!

03/19/04 Well we discovered a possum (opposum if you want to get technical...) sneaking around our backyard. We live in a pretty urbanized area but there's a lot of construction going on and I fear the little woodland creatures are being forced out of their natural habitats. This doesn't have much to do with WLS, but hey, how often do you seen a possum in your shed?

I've decided to keep weighing like I am but to make sure I record my weight each Friday, just to keep me on track. My weightloss has slowed somewhat and I think I need to take a close look at it each week. Before I got the great scale for home I went to the WLS office to weigh each Friday before lunch. If I wasn't doing particularly well that week I'd make sure to up my walking and eat a light lunch for the next few days. Since I got the home scale, I've been weighing daily and not really paying much attention to the weekly weight loss. I was on a 9 day plateau until I kicked up my walking. I think by recording each Friday's weight, whether I've had any weightloss or not will get me back to being focused. Today was kind of nice because not only did I plan to record my weight but I am actually down a pound from yesterday. I'll keep posting it weekly and we'll see how I do.

03/25/04 Tomorrow I go in for my 6 month check-up and frankly I was a bit worried I wouldn't be down to 100# lost according to the center's scales. I went in today and weighed early and Baylor says I'm at 100.3 pounds down!

I also attended my 6 month nutrition class with Carrie. Boy, is she smart! That lady really knows her stuff. If you aren't taking advantage of her classes, shame on you! She's great and we got free Mrs. Dash samples as well.

I'm up to $7.95 in found money from my daily walking but I don't know if I can call that an official amount because I found out Robin has been throwing some pennies in the street for me to find every couple of days... Oh that girl!

03/26/04 Today's been one of those good news, bad news kind of days. I weighed this morning as usual. My weight tends to fluctuate 2 or 3 pounds during the course of the week and the hour of the day and I usually don't worry about it too much but today was the day I was going to record my Friday weights to keep me on track. Well, the scale read 336 so I've actually gained a pound!

I went in to the center to have my 6 month checkup and the scale had me up half a pound from yesterday. I told Lisa I wasn't going to go with that and asked if it was ok if I took my shoes off and reweighed. She had no problem with it and the new weight was 346.6, which is down 1.2 pounds from yesterday and 101.5# down from my surgery weight. So I am now officially part of the Century Club-and we won't mention the shoes, shhh...

Kristen had no problem with my weight fluctuating as long as I'm sticking to the plan. She said my exercise is right for me. Frankly, I'm a lot harder on myself than she was. I calculated my intake at fitday yesterday and it was a bit high on fat and calories. That coupled with the one pound weight gain has me somewhat upset at myself. I'm making a concerted effort to eat better and I'll definitely be walking more each night.

Update: OK, after all my fretting this morning over a pound, I ate small portions and went for a 20 minute walk, then mowed the front and back yard and I'm down to 334#. So, I am changing the weight above to reflect a one pound loss, even though this morning it was a one pound gain. I'm sort of glad this all happened; it gave me the kick in the butt to get stricter on myself with what I'm putting in this body and how much I move the ol' body around...
