My WLS Journey
07/05/04 Well with all the exercise and logging my food I've ended up losing another 2 pounds today. It's been awhile since I've lost more than 1 pound at a time.
07/09/04 Robin had her surgery yesterday. She did really well. I'm down a pound again today so I'm pretty happy about everything.
07/10/04 Well I'm down another pound today. My BMI is now lower than Robin's with me at 48 and her at 49 (for about 2 days I bet...)
07/13/04 I woke up at 4AM with intense stomach pains. I called the office and headed for the ER. I was in Emergency for 12 hours, during which, they ran all sorts of tests. Dr. McCarty had me admitted and they are keeping a close eye on me.
07/14/04 I'm doing okay today. I was able to get out and walk around the floor. I did a 14 minute walk and a 12 minute walk and got in about 3/4 of a mile. Dr. McCarty suspects I had a perforated ulcer which closed back up which is why none of the tests showed any leakage but my pouch was filled with air. They've got me on protonix and hopefully they won't need to do surgery as long as the lil general responds to the medication.
On the plus side, I've lost 10 pounds since last Thursday and I'm only taking in 200 calories a day so I should lose some more by the time I get home.
07/17/04 Well I got to come home yesterday. I feel much better, although I'm on a lot of meds. My sedentary lifestyle in the hospital caused me to gain weight and retain fluids, even though I had such a restricted caloric intake while I was there. That proves once again that the key to losing weight is exercise coupled with healthy eating habits. I did manage to take off one pound since last week but I'm looking forward to exercising to get my weight loss moving again.
07/22/04 We started the Stage II Soft Foods Diet a couple days early yesterday. We had been watching SO many ads on TV for pizza, and Subway, and every other kind of food known to man. It was driving us crazy so we said, "Let's go have an egg!" And we did! I felt a bit guilty about the whole thing but we made sure it fit into our meal plans and that it stuck to the program. Well I ended the day yesterday with 900 calories and I lost another pound so something must be working right.
I finally get to wear my birthday shirt from Robin-it's an 18 1/2 neck and has always been too tight to wear up until today. I'm also wearing a pair of jeans from the BB clothing exchange that I've never been able to get into. They are a bit snug but I can get into them and didn't need a pair of pliers to close the zipper.
07/23/04 I started out this journey over 444#. I have worked at it and saw that first number drop to a 3. Today that number changed for the second time and it is now a 2. For the first time in over 10 years I am under 300 pounds. I am now 299 and life feels pretty darn good!
07/29/04 We got a new scale yesterday. It shows me 5 pounds heavier than the other scale. I went ahead and recorded my weight on the chart below. I'm going to get out and do a lot of walking the rest of this week so I can get down to 299 by next Friday. Even though nothing has changed really, I still feel like a bit of a failure...
